SURFER – The Hot 100 Movie

Thanks to my man Gabriel Medina, this video has come to my attention.

It is 38 mins long, a real flick. Grab a beer, turn off your phone, make some nachos in the microwave, and enjoy.

Byron Bay Short Film Trailer

This looks awesome. I really want to get up to Byron Bay, and this makes me wanna go WAY more than I already did. The waves look literally perfect and the overall feel of the film makes Byron Bay look like the coolest place ever.

This is the description from the vimeo page:

“A no budget film by Dominic Sullivan stepping into the bubble of Byron Bay. A short film to be released July 2012.

Meet the characters of the once sleepy town of Byron Bay where the locals are hard to find amidst the thriving tourist town it is today. From surfing on some of Australia’s most beautiful beaches to snorkeling, kayaking around the pristine ‘Bay’, take a journey through the eyes of a local. The far most east point of the Australian’s mainland comes some salty characters, parents draw to the area in the 60s and 70s as hippies and free thinkers looking for the layed back lifestyle, that is still present in the town today. See through the eyes of these people the things that float their boat, views and thoughts.Whats next for Byron Bay ?Sit down , have a coffee and catch up with these crazy characters this July.

Bronteeeeeeeeee

I just surfed Maroubra and mutilated my board. I am actually having trouble seeing what I am typing due to all the tears streaming out of my eyes. I don’t have any money so I am gonna have to buy a $75 dollar piece of junk board to last me the next few months. Lame.

But, the bright side is how awesome it is to surf in Sydney. This is a video of the waves just a few miles (or kms if you roll that way) up the road from me at Bronte. Absolutely incredible.

Laura Enever

Laura’s been killin’ it lately. I just saw her at the Australian Open and she was looking like she was gonna win the compo until Sally Fitzgibbons went nuts and took the championship. Regardless of the outcome of the Australian Open, Laura is one of the best surfers in the world male or female and she is a lot of fun to watch.

This video is her recapping her year in 2011, but it has some good surfing bits and she talks about the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, just a wee bit south of my home back in the states.

Salmon Theory – New Hampshire Winter Surfing

Balls. The. Size. Of. Planets.

Holy hell this looks cold. I went to New Hampshire once for a bachelor party and I was freezing…. in August. This looks like what I imagine it felt like for Han Solo in that part in Star Wars when he gets frozen. This is like a combination of Endless Summer and Ice Age. But, you gotta love how the lineup is actually pretty crowded for a 10 degree March day in NH. I have mad respect for guys up in the cold parts of the world like New Hampshire, Iceland, Canada, Ireland, England, etc. who slap on a wetsuit and jump into liquid ice just to catch a few waves.

These guys are gnarly, let it be known. They have a blog too, so please go check it out and tell your friends about it. Here it is.

Fire and Water Trailer

This movie is unique. You haven’t seen anything like it before, I can guarantee it just from the trailer alone.

I’ll copy the description from the vimeo page:

Don “Gums” Eichin, from Long Island NY was 1 of a handfull of pioneering surfers in the late 1950′s and 60′s that set out to make a life in Hawaii. Testing their wits in the big waves of Oahu’s Bonzai Pipeline, Wiamea & other imfamous waves with some of the greatest named legends of the time. He later became an FDNY Firefighter. His story is no less then that of legend. His passion for surfing, the ocean & amazing stories have passed through the generations of his own family and their friends as they were so influenced by him that they too became surfers and FDNY Firemen.

This is a very unique film surrounded by family Friends in an important lost surfing tale that is still being written today as Don’s sons, Eric & Randy follow in Don’s footsteps with good friends Brian Walsh & Casey Skudin. Its an eye opening look at how New York has always been there and how they gained respect umungst power surfers from all over the world.

By the Creator, Writer & Director, Thomas Brookins of the award winning “Shadows of the Same Sun”, And Producer James Baker. Its yet another attachment to NY and surfings history. With astounding lost images, Interviews & Surfing by Rob Machado, Kassia Meador, Mikey Detemple, Rochelle Ballard & more. This documentary pays its respect to the bravest people on Earth. Its a tale not just about Heros, Its about Heros surfing with Heros.
